Luis Armando García's research is about the natural resources of his area, Zacatecas, situated in the semi-desert zones in the north of Mexico. Time is an essential factor in his installations: it concerns the the fitting of elements, their interaction and their development over the course of the exhibition. In 2002, within the framework of a group show in his city, Luis Armando García realized an artwork with hanging stone filters, just like those used to cleanse the water in the desert. The cleansed water drops, falling on a warm surface, evaporated immediately. This installation refered to the very little precipitations in the Mexican desert and
the waiting for the seasonal rains that mould the patience of the inhabitants of this area. Today, the artist suggests adapting this view to the environment of Quebec. During his site-specific residency, Luis Armando García wishes to explore the relations between the harshness of the quebecer winter and the dryness of the Zacatecas semi-desert. He will tent to draw an invisible line between these two realities, while letting themselfs express their differences. The title of the project, Viento del Norte, refers to the freezing winter wind which, each year, blows through all North
America. In Mexico, the cold spells are counted and assigned with numbers, as markers of the wintertime.
