LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE welcomes Céline Huyghebaert for a residency at the documentation centre from October 31 to December 18, 2016. The work product of this residency will be presented on Thursday, December 15 from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Céline Huyghebaert’s practice doesn’t differentiate between literature and visual arts. A doctoral student, writer and researcher with an atypical profile, she has taken an active interest in marginal publications. She has surreptitiously and anonymously dispersed her own fanzine production. During her residency at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, she will create the imaginary biography of a woman artist that would have left her mark in recent art history. Using a methodology that has yet to be determined, she will consult monographs, catalogues and magazines from the documentation centre. These publications devoted to the work of women artists from the end of the 20th century and from the 21st, will be used as the source material. By doing so, Huyghebaert aims to explore the place that such works of reference and magazines have devoted to the woman artist in the last 30 years, and to analyze the place she holds in contemporary art.

From le drap blanc

LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE is pleased to invite you to the launch of the publication le drap blanc by Céline Huyghebaert which will take place on Thursday March 30 at 5pm.

In le drap blanc, Céline Huyghebaert juggles between documentary and fiction to talk about the death of her father. For five years, the artist has conducted a very personal inquiry to reconstruct a sort of biography of absence: she does not paints a portrait of a life, but of the blanks of that life, and the ways these blanks continue to shape the present. To the question of what is true in her project, Céline Huyghebaert will tell you that she never lied. She will also tell you that she has invented a lot and often borrowed from others. She will tell the truth in every case.

The graphic creation of this book was composed in collaboration with the collectif d’ébène & de blanc. The color of the paper, the layouts, the silkscreened texts and the multiple insertions offer both a textual and a visual research on the issue of disappearance.
