LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE welcomes Italian artist Marco Casella for a site-specific residency from August 7 to September 11, 2017. He will present his work on August 31 at 5pm and the gallery will be open to the public from September 1 to September 10.

In his practice, Casella uses sounds and images to create artificial environments. His research focuses on the act of generating images, sounds and other aesthetic phenomena, thus constructing both mental and formal superstructures, allowing him to manipulate and translate real soundscapes and images.

He borrows from images of his daily life and the Web to create from scratch environments composed from generic data among others. We thus navigate between royalty-free sounds and images as well as material gathered throughout his practice and travels.

During his residency at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE, Marco Casella aims to produce a tonal landscape. He will firstly record the tonal variation in specific locations of the city over time. With the help of a device of his own, he will use this data to create soundtracks to be broadcast all at once, thus creating an abstract sound environment for his installation.  Following this process he will project on the walls of the gallery and imaginary map of Quebec composed of generic images, sounds and photographs taken in the city.
