Master Class

postponed date

Samuel Bianchini |

postponed date

We invite emerging artists from Quebec City and Wendake to Samuel Bianchini’s master class which will take place on April 4, 2020 from 10 am to 5 pm. The master class will focus on the concept of “operational aesthetics” and will be divided into three parts: the presentation of the concept, its concrete use and a scenario that the participants will be able to experience in a creative setting.

The three parts of the master class:

1- The artist and researcher will present a series of his artistic works of different natures, which all embody, in their own way, this search for an operational aesthetic.

2- From these cases, a broader perspective, theoretical and historical, will be exposed concerning the works implying an active relationship with their public, then for those working for their autonomy.

3- Finally, it will be a question of entering into the modes of conception of such operating apparatus (“dispositifs”): how to collectively conceive an artistic project of this nature? Based on a real local situation, co-design work will be carried out for a fictitious as well as speculative project, with all the participants and on the basis of a problematization prepared in advance.

The master class of Samuel Bianchini will allow emerging artists to learn the principle of research-creation focused on dispositifs implementing active and interdependent processes related to an operational aesthetic. Following the presentation of the theoretical concepts that structure this approach, the artists will have the opportunity to experience it in the form of co-design and group discussion. The master class will thus be an opportunity to understand and put into practice this thought and approach for which the transition from the concept of installation to that of dispositif is undoubtedly one of the most striking indicators and for which work instrumental research is essential.

This contact with the artist / teacher / researcher will thus offer an opportunity to discover new methods in research and creation that allow the aesthetic, symbolic and technical dimensions to be closely combined in an alliance of the human and the non-human. It will be a privilege for the center to receive Samuel Bianchini at LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE and to offer free master classes to emerging artists from Quebec City and Wendake thanks to the Quebec City's Première Ovation grant.
